Wine30: Bruschettas on the Terrace
I love coming here with my friends. It's nice and ambient inside the restaurant but if the weather isn't too hot or cold, try to get seated in the back of the restaurant to enjoy the outdoor terrace. In the evening, it's pretty charming... like me. Wine30 stays open late so I like to order a bottle of wine and a few small plates to enjoy the night. I've only come here for dinner so that's all I'll be talking about in this post.
I don't have too many complaints about Wine30. I wish they played some chill music in the background. The pricing is average for New York. Overall, I would say that the restaurant is okay for dinner but it's much better for smaller dishes and wine. If you look at their wine menu, they've got almost 300 different wines (by the bottle). They also serve a little over 50 wines by the glass. I've heard their cocktails are "okay" and they also have a decent selection of hard liquor.
I started with the bruschetta. The bread was grilled very well with olive oil. The people that know me well, know that I care a lot about the bread. It was crispy but not hard. It was tasty but not overwhelming.
Look. At. It. It's almost too pretty to eat. I would recommend any of the bruschettas because they all look pretty boss. I ordered the tomato, mozzarella, basil, balsamic, honey, and EV olive oil bruschetta. The one they served me had too much mozzarella and too little tomatoes. But, I love that they added honey.
The next one was a bruschetta with roasted corn, black beans, chihuahua cheese, cilantro, and lime juice. No, chihuahua cheese is not made from the milk of a chihuahua. Chihuahua cheese is a soft, white cow's milk cheese, first made in the Mexican state of Chihuahua. It sounded interesting and looked like an open-faced taco. Speaking of tacos...
FUN FACT: "Taco Cat" is a fun palindrome.
Our last bruschetta had spicy beef sausage, peppers, and onions. It was a good, salty bruschetta to complement the cold, refreshing ones.
Lastly, I ordered the free-range roasted chicken breast with mashed potatoes, braised fennel, tomato confit, & au jus. I ordered a similar version before with chimichurri. Both times, the chicken was cooked very well. The skin was crispy but the meat was still juicy. This is total comfort food. It's a light dish but you'll definitely be satisfied with it. I also wanted to point out that fennel is in the celery family but looks like a mix between a radish and an onion. The fennel's foilage, bulb, and seeds can all be used for culinary purposes. Wine30 braises the fennel's bulb as a vegetable.
FUN FACT: Fennel is super healthy for you. It improves vision and digestion, treats hypertension, and is a good source of phytoestrogen. YEAH. VEGETABLES.
