Dooreyoo (두레유): A Homage to Seasonal Ingredients

The Bukchon Hanok Village of Seoul is renowned for its traditional Korean houses and winding alleyways. Despite being a preserved 600 year-old metropolis, this area has welcomed an influx of cafes, restaurants, and art galleries. Located in the outskirts of this historic neighborhood, Dooreyoo serves contemporary Korean cuisine using seasonal and organic ingredients.

Dooreyoo feels secluded from the bustling adjacent street thanks to the neighboring Korean pine trees that seem to shield the venue. Beams of sunlight would dress the wooden structure of the restaurant with a warm and comforting tone. The staff is friendly and accommodating in this cozy, traditional-style eatery.

For lunch, there were several course menus available. We opted for the Moon menu, which was 8 courses for 77,000 WON (or $62 USD) per person. Alternatively, the Sky menu starts at 55,000 WON ($45 USD) for 5 plates while the Star menu costs 110,000 WON ($90 USD) for 10 plates.

In terms of food, we were satisfied with the quality and the value. The Injeolmi Tiramisu was the most intriguing plate but I wish the I got the same energy from some of the other underwhelming dishes like the Warm Potatoes. Overall, the dishes at Dooreyoo weren’t the most exciting or game-changing but it was pleasant for a calm, summer lunch.
