Moreno: Coastal Tapas in Sitges
Sitges, a picturesque coastal town just a short train ride from Barcelona, is renowned for its vibrant beach culture and stunning architecture. During our visit in August 2024, Annie and I spent the morning strolling the sunlit promenades and golden sands before seeking refuge at Moreno—a cozy tapas bar that felt like a welcome escape from the summer heat. Perched on a bustling street, its cool, air-conditioned interior and cold drinks felt like an oasis, rejuvenating us for the rest of the day.
Moreno has a warm and inviting atmosphere. The staff, both friendly and engaging, made us feel right at home. During our visit, our waiter asked where we were from and delighted us by sharing a phrase or two in our native languages. Their approach was unhurried, encouraging us to savor each bite at our own pace.
Moreno's menu is a celebration of Spanish culinary tradition, showcasing high-quality ingredients with minimal fuss. We enjoyed a couple of dishes ranging from delicately sliced 5J jamon ibérico to grilled razor clams kissed with a hint of the sea. Each dish was thoughtfully prepared, letting the quality of the ingredients shine.
Although Moreno is a popular spot among tourists, it doesn’t fall into the trap of catering solely to the crowds. Locals and travelers alike gather here, drawn in by the lively ambiance, impressive display of fresh seafood, and dishes that highlight the rich flavors of Spanish cuisine. Whether you’re looking for a quick bite or a leisurely meal, Moreno offers an authentic taste of Sitges, all while letting you enjoy the energy of the town right through the restaurant’s windows.
We loved walking through the streets of Sitges. It was quite busy with tourists but it wasn’t too overwhelming. Moreno has a few outdoor seats (in the shade) but we opted to sit inside with the air conditioning.
By the way, there’s a fun local candy store called La Goulue next to Moreno. We picked up a few chocolates and being inside made me feel like a kid again.
Annie and I were seated at a high-top table, right next to this amazing view of the day’s fresh catches. Those razor clams are looking fine and belong in my belly.
Barcelona is hot in August so it’s important to stay hydrated. May I suggest a cold beer or a chilled wine?
The Acord-Fed Ibérico Pork is proudly marked with a 5J label, which signifies the highest quality grade from the Spanish brand Cinco Jotas. This mark of excellence guarantees a premium experience.
Beautifully and carefully sliced by hand, the Ibérico Pork’s natural oils glisten and invite you to savor every bite. The portion size is quite good for just 29 EUR.

The Crunchy Artichoke Crisps were fried very well. I appreciated the crisp exterior and the succulent interior. This was also a generous portion of food for the price.

The Gambas (Shrimp with Garlic) were fragrant and deep with garlic flavors. I couldn’t help but notice how plump these shrimps were—a testament to Moreno’s dedication to quality ingredients.

Moreno’s Caramelized Foie had a silky texture that burst with rich, buttery notes. The surface was seared nicely, which imbued the liver with a distinct charred flavor and aroma.
The sweet fruity glaze adds a delightful contrast to the foie. Often made with figs, berries, or apples, the glaze balances the foie’s fatty flavor with a subtle tang.

The Grilled Razor Clams from Galicia were awesome. I really enjoyed the fresh sweetness of these clams. With just a little bit of salt and a squeeze of lemon, this dish really showcases the quality of Spain’s natural flavors.
To ensure the clams maintain their tender texture and optimal flavor, it’s best to enjoy them promptly while they’re still warm. Allowing them to cool can result in a rubbery consistency that diminishes their delicate appeal.
